🐮 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How can I purchase animals from you?

Please contact us first to see which animals we currently have available — they change daily!

Not all animals are available for sale, as many are permanent residents of our sanctuary.

What do the different color tags mean?

Every animal on the farm has a tag — an ear tag, a wing tag, or another identifier.

This system helps us track and properly care for the many animals who call M&B Farm & Hatchery home.

🟩 Green Tags — Surrendered animals marked as Farm Use by their previous owner. These animals may become part of the working farm and can be sold, sent to auction, or processed.

💛 Yellow Tags — Surrendered animals marked as Sanctuary. These are NOT FOR SALE and fall under our 501(c)(3) livestock rescue. They live out their full, natural lives here on the farm.

🔴 Red TagsPets and family companions, not for sale.

🔵 Blue Tags — Animals that were born or hatched on the farm, or those the farm has purchased from auctions or private individuals. Blue-tag animals may be sold.

🟣 Purple TagsExotic or endangered animals that are part of our Livestock Conservancy program. These can only be sold to licensed Georgia dealers.

Do you rescue animals?

Yes! 💚
We rescue a wide variety of farm and domesticated animals, including livestock, poultry, dogs, and cats.

Our rescue animals come from many situations — neglect, abandonment, or owner surrenders. Each animal receives a full evaluation to determine their health, temperament, and individual needs before we decide whether they will become available for adoption or remain as permanent sanctuary residents.

We are not an adopt-for-profit rescue. Instead, we take the time to learn what every animal likes and dislikes, how they behave with others, and what environment will help them thrive.

🐱 Cats

Most of the cats currently in our care came to us through farm dumps or emergencies.

While we hold a domestic animal shelter license, we are not equipped to handle large numbers of cats at this time. Our current “Cat Hotel” is scheduled for a complete rebuild, and both space and funding are limited.

🐾 Dogs

This is an active working farm with hundreds of free-range birds and livestock.

We are not a traditional dog rescue — our primary focus is on working breeds such as Black Mouth Curs, Anatolian Shepherds, and Great Pyrenees, which are naturally suited to farm-guardian life.

That said, when kennel space is available, we do make exceptions.

We’ve proudly fostered dogs for military members during deployments and continue to help when possible — but only when it’s safe for both the incoming animal and our current residents.

Is dumping or abandoning animals on the farm allowed?

Absolutely not. 🚫

Dumping or abandoning animals on our property is illegal under Georgia law and is considered a serious offense.

Our gates and drive are under 24-hour surveillance, and any incidents of animal dumping will be reported immediately to local law enforcement with video evidence provided.

If this behavior continues, we will have no choice but to pursue further legal action — but we truly hope our community will choose compassion and responsibility instead.

📞 Our contact information is posted on all gates — please reach out to us before leaving or abandoning any animal.

We may have other resources or rescue partners who can help you safely and legally surrender the animal without fear of penalty.

We’re here to help when possible, but dumping animals without notice only puts them — and others — at risk.

Contacts for reporting abandoned or stray animals:

Brantley County Sheriff’s Office (no animal control): (912) 462-6141

Glynn County Animal Services: (912) 554-7500

Under the Georgia Animal Protection Act (O.C.G.A. 4-11-2), impounding or harboring stray, homeless, or abandoned animals requires a contract with a political subdivision of the state. We comply with all applicable laws and cooperate with authorities as needed.

How do I adopt an animal?

To adopt, please complete our Adoption Application (dogs and cats only) by clicking HERE.

Applications must be approved prior to adoption.

Do you offer farm tours or visiting hours?

Visits are by appointment only. All visitors 18 years and older must complete a Visitor Check-In Form before entering the rescue area.

You can complete the form by clicking HERE.
